National Youth Science Camp’s tradition of athletic programs dates back to the very first camp in 1963. Every year has had a variety of sports, competitions and events, but some years had a more organized approach to these activities. NYSC 1965 marks the first record we have of the “National Youth Science Camp Olympics” an epic sporting encompassing a variety of sports and scoring the competitions by cabin. This tradition continues in later years and will be posted to the relevant archives as we locate the files.
Notable within this document is the first mention of the Spartans, a tradition recently reinvigorated amongst campers. Page 9 also contains a record of frequent lecturer Dr. Rick Walker winning the Discus toss with a titanic throw of 8’8″.
