Nashville is the site of the 2012 NYSC Alumni Association Reunion late this summer! NYSCAA officers, Board of Advisors, long-time staph and supporters, and past camp participants will be in Nashville from August 2nd to August 5th to host a great time of re-connection and fun. *** (Some will be there for that entire time; some alumni will pop in and out according to their summer schedule. We encourage everyone to come for what they can!) ***
Reunions are a combination of big group activities and meals and smaller group outings depending on everyone’s interests – with the overall goal simply to have time with other campers and have some fun in a great location. Families/kids are welcome – there are always things to do that kids and grownups alike can enjoy. We are making plans for ‘big outings’ that all or many may want to do; and we are arranging information on other things to do, so that people can group up according to their interests. We are staying at the Holiday Inn Nashville – Vanderbilt, with rooms available at a good group rate, and will have “hang out space” in a suite there as well.
Nashville has a wide range of things to do: The Hermitage (home of President Andrew Jackson), a Parthenon replica, great parks and botanical gardens, Lane Motor Museum, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Civil War sites, multiple art museums, a fantastic children’s museum with fun science-related sections, plantation homes, historic recording studios and music venues, and tons of live music!
NYSCAA reunions are always flexible, so please join us as for much as you can, even if you can’t spend the whole weekend with us. Nashville is a beautiful, friendly city and we’ll have a great time exploring with science camp friends and family.
Thursday Aug 2nd: People start arriving on Thursday. Dinner, outing, hang-out time Thursday night as desired for those who’ve made it in.
Friday Aug 3rd: More people arrive Friday day or evening. Outings on Friday as desired. Dinner out on Friday night.
Saturday Aug 4th: Saturday morning – Brief NYSCAA business meeting plus short talks of interest from campers, staph, and/or local people (e.g. profs from Vanderbilt). Interesting tidbits of current work, research, etc! All are welcome, it’s like mini-camp sessions!
Saturday afternoon – more fun! outings, hang out, etc.
Saturday night – the traditional NYSCAA Reunuion Banquet with great food and socializing, plus updates on this year’s just-finished camp session, the new camp location, other NYSC news.
